Heureka exhibits Finnish bedrock in miniature

In front of the Heureka building is an exhibition which displays the various rock types that comprise Finland’s bedrock. The stones are arranged in accordance with the province from which they come. There are a total of 124 stones ranging from the Ordovician limestone of the Åland Islands in the south to the gold ore of Kittilä in the north. In addition to blocks of stone, there are also post-glacial shore stones from Vantaa.

The bedrock exhibition was opened on 8 September 1988. The blocks of stone were donated by entrepreneurs in the stone industry, Geological Survey of Finland, mining companies and various municipalities.
