Ships and the Sea

Throughout history, the sea has played an important role in the development of the human society. Many of today’s metropolises sprang up from natural harbours on coastlines, and they still depend heavily on the sea, both in their economy and culture.

Conquering the oceans has required great effort and innovation. Ships and the Sea is an interactive science centre exhibition highlighting modern seafaring and the history of seafaring in a novel, fascinating way.

The key attractions are the Reachstacker, a large forklift used to pick up containers in harbours, and the Port Heureka, where visitors can steer remote-controlled vessels, such as container vessel, ro-ro ferry, car carrier and icebreaker along the marked fairways.
