• Cable cycling

The wire wheel, which runs along the ceiling of the main exhibition area at a height of around 6.5 metres, is a long-time favourite among Heureka visitors. Cable bike has been in Heureka since 1993. The bike stays upright on the cable thanks to the 120 kg counterweight. Because of the weight, driving is completely safe despite a slight wobble.

A cable bike is a rare bicycle because it stays on upright even when stationary. Safety net under the cable wheel enables driving without a safety harness and the presence of a guide. Below the safety net, there is also a denser net installed to protect against falling items. The minimum length limit for a cable bike is 140 centimeters, so that the rider's feet can reach the pedals. The rider's maximum weight limit is 110 kilograms.

  • Focalt's pendulum

The earth is spinning - and Heureka with it. The metal strips move in front of the pendulum according to the rotation of the earth.

In which direction does the earth rotate?

The pendulum is freely suspended. It is attached to the roof with a ball joint, so it keeps the same swing direction, even if the house rotates with the Earth.

    Notice the difference

If there was a hinge at the top end of the pendulum, the pendulum would rotate with the house.
